Our group project is concerned about the pollution in Lake Toba. In this project, our team will investigate what causes the pollution in Lake Toba, the severity of the pollution, the effect on the tourism, and the solution the reduce the level of pollution and to preserve one of the more well-known tourism spot in Indonesia that is the lake itself. For the project, our team will be focusing more on the pollution caused by the factory near the Lake Toba itself, particularly those caused by pulp factory and hydro electric powerplant near the lake. Our team concluded that the deforestation caused by nearby pulp factory can decrease the quality of the water and the hydro electric powerplant, though useful for powering nearby village can lower the water level and may cause landslide by redirecting the river into the dam. For the prevention of the pollution, our team proposes minimizing the waste by using new and best available technologies. We also proposes to stop to expansion of dam as to prevent more hydro electric powerplant pollution and replace it solar power plant instead.
